For several years, Nordic Bulk has supplied and supported processing equipment for Rekefjord Stone. As the quarry continued to develop, the company needed access to rock reserves located beneath its existing primary crushing plant. To unlock these resources and support future production, Rekefjord Stone initiated a project to establish a new primary crushing plant.
Relocating the Plant to Access Valuable Rock Reserves
The main objective of the project was to relocate the primary crushing plant, allowing Rekefjord Stone to access the rock reserves beneath the footprint of the existing installation. At the same time, the customer wanted to retain the existing primary crusher as a key part of the new plant.
The new primary crushing plant comprises a new primary crushing station, grizzly feeder, primary screen and conveyors.
Combining Proven Equipment with New Infrastructure
Nordic Bulk engineered and delivered a solution that incorporated the existing primary crusher into a completely new primary crushing station.
The project was carefully planned and executed to ensure production could continue throughout the construction phase. The existing crusher remained in operation until the new plant was ready, at which point it was relocated and commissioned in its new position.
Minimal Downtime and Additional Benefits
Maintaining production during the transition was a key priority. Through careful planning and execution, downtime was kept to an absolute minimum during the final changeover to the new plant.
While the primary driver for the relocation was to gain access to additional rock reserves, the project also delivered several operational benefits. The new location provides greater separation from nearby residential areas, and the revised conveyor arrangement has increased stockpile capacity for the 0–32 mm aggregate product.
Today, all production is processed through the new primary crushing plant, providing a reliable platform for efficient operations for many years to come.
Critical for Future Deliveries
As Egil Solheim, Managing Director of Rekefjord Stone, explains:
“Rekefjord Stone supplies large volumes of high-quality rock products to Northern Europe. The stone is quartz-free and is used for coastal protection projects, offshore wind developments and the construction of critical infrastructure. The quarries at Rekefjord have been classified by the Norwegian Directorate of Mining as nationally important aggregate resources. This project, with Nordic Bulk as the main contractor, has been essential in enabling Rekefjord Stone to continue supplying high-quality rock products from Rogaland in support of Europe’s green transition.”
A Strong Partnership
We greatly appreciate the trust placed in us by Rekefjord Stone and the excellent collaboration throughout the project.
The new primary crushing plant is now fully operational, and we look forward to supporting Rekefjord Stone’s operations for many years to come.
