As a trainee, you get to experience a lot!

What motivated you to apply for a trainee position through Norsk Bergindustri, and what were your expectations before you started?

I was motivated by the opportunity to explore different aspects of the mining industry, through work in different companies and roles. I was looking forward to meeting a wide range of people and I think it’s really cool that you get to experience living in different places in the country through the trainee program.

What have you learned so far during your time as a trainee at Nordic Bulk?

While studying at University, we used miniature crushers and learned about equipment used in mines, but seeing all this in full scale has been a completely different and very exciting experience.

Can you describe a challenge you have faced and how did you deal with it?

If I face a challenge, I first try to solve it myself. Or if I get stuck, I seek out colleagues. There is always someone who can help.

Which projects or tasks have you worked on that have been most interesting and educational for you, and why?

I have worked a lot with documentation, including for the Engebø project. It has been a lot of fun because it gives me a good overview of the entire project and how different parts are connected.

What is the most exciting thing about being a trainee?

The most exciting thing for me is the opportunity to see and experience what it is like to work in different roles and in different companies. Previously, I worked at Nordic Mining, where the focus was more on converting resources into products, while now I am gaining insight into how Nordic Bulk works as a supplier to the mining and minerals industry. It provides a unique insight into several levels of the industry.

How do you think the experience from the trainee scheme will affect your career in the mining industry?

I believe these experiences will be very valuable for my career. Working with different people and tasks makes it easier to see what I enjoy the most. This provides a solid foundation for further work in the industry.

What would you say to others who are considering applying for a trainee position through the Norwegian Mining Industry?

I would strongly recommend applying for a trainee position through the Norwegian Mining Industry. The trainee-program provides a unique opportunity to try out many different areas and to work in different companies. In addition, it is exciting to live in different places, which makes this a unique opportunity and experience, it is both educational and fun!
