There are good opportunities for new value chains and new applications based on surplus materials from the Norwegian mining industry. From opencast mines and quarries, from ore and industrial minerals operations, from the natural stone industry and from crushed stone plants.

Europe consumes 20% of the world’s mineral production, but accounts for only 3% of the supply. We are therefore critically dependent on imports. To become more self-sufficient, the production rate must be increased and the utilization rate increased for
all rock materials. A full and well-functioning value chain, from extraction to production, use and reuse in a circular economy, can and should become a reality
