You’re at work in the crushed stone plant when you hear an alarming sound. Silence. You know at once what has happened. Your conveyor belt has broken down, production has stopped, and you’re losing money by the minute.

Let’s look at a practical example. You work in a medium-sized crushed stone plant. You produce 110 tons per hour and charge NOK 80 per ton. If you experience downtime, this will cost you in excess of NOK 70,000 if the downtime persists for a full working day. This is only the cost of lost production. Repair of broken machinery will be additional.

Say the conveyor belt that has broken down is 35 meters long. To repair it, you need to call in fitters who can vulcanize the tape, and a crane truck to lift away a damaged part. The estimated cost of these repairs is NOK 20,000.

We have developed a calculator that allows you to calculate the cost of downtime based on your specific crushed rock plant.
